The school was formed in August 1956 as Burnley Technical High School following a merger between Heasandford Technical High School for Girls and Towneley Technical High School for Boys. It remained in this form until 1972 when it became Towneley Comprehensive. In 1976 it changed once again, becoming Towneley High School, until its eventual closure in 2010 when activity was transferred to the newly built Unity College as part of the new program of "Super Schools".
This site is dedicated solely to Burnley Technical High School between the years 1956 to 1972 prior to becoming a Comprehensive.
Particular thanks go to Peter Chadwick, Alan Riley, Les Green, Michael Worsdall, Steve Young and Derek Johnson for their contribution to the site in the form of photographs and archive material.
