EXCERPTS FROM THE HEADMASTER'S LOG AUGUST 1966 - 1972

15 August 1966
School reopened with 540 boys and girls on the roll. Third form entry was not made selective in any way. Instead a more thorough going "setting" arrangement was made for both English and Mathematics. Head Boy - S. Jackson, Head Girl - Susan Layfield together with 10 Prefects were appointed along with Sports Captains.

26th August 1966
G.C.E. Results: 340 - 'O' level passes - 65%. 'A' level passes 69%. Rather better than the previous year.
1st September 1966
Mrs. C. Clark appointed and commenced duties as the first full-time Laboratory Steward.
5 September 1966
Miss V. Eastwood, a former VI form pupil and now a student in Cheshire County T.C. offered to help in the arrangements for the Girls' Games for the fortnight 5 - 9 September in the continued absence of Mrs. Armistead : a very fine gesture greatly appreciated by the girls.
26 September 1966
Scientific Society recruited 31 members - a programme of experiments and films discussed. The Chess club re-commenced activities in the noon time hour.
10 October 1966
Junior and Senior Swimming Galas held at North Street Baths. Two well contested and enjoyable events. Victors - Assheton.
7 November 1966
The mid day dinner service arrangements were altered from separate boys and girls sittings to Junior and Senior mixed sittings. Little initial difficulty experienced.
9 December 1966
29 VI Form + 10 members of Staff left at 4pm by coach for a weekend at Derwent Bank Guest House. Mr. Housby leader of the party.
31 May 1967
Annual School Sports held on Barden track. Starkie beat Towneley in an exciting event.
